In Corinth, you first should see the canal. I think it’s really pretty because the water’s so blue! It's cool, because it connects the two seas, the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea. Boats used to have to go around, so this makes it really convenient for boats to travel from place to place. Then, go to the archeological site. I think it’s very meaningful to be where Paul was. This is one of the only places where we know exactly where he was when he lived in Corinth and stood at the Bema. The columns of the Temple of Apollo are neat because they are monolithic (one piece of stone instead of different stones on top of each other, like spools, forming a column), which is amazing because they didn't have the technology that we have today, such as cranes! It is interesting to learn about the columns. You can see more of Ancient Corinth in the museum at the site. Finally,
climb Acro-Corinth! I think the view is definitely worth the climb. It’s not hard, but there are lots of slick stones underneath your feet, so you just have to be careful. Acro-Corinth is free to get in, so that makes it even awesomer! Chacos are the perfect shoe to travel in. Your feet don't get sweaty, and the shoes are waterproof! I wear mine pretty much everyday in the summertime, and I absolutely love them! I got mine on sale, so I'm proud of the price we found! http://www.chacos.com/US/en/ClassicSandals The bottom picture is of me, my dad, and my granddaddy. My dad is wearing a Tilley Hat, and he wears it all the time and loves it! http://www.tilley.com/us_en/

My favorite part of Athens is the Acropolis; the word Acropolis means a city's highest point, and the Acropolis is certainly uphill from the modern-day city! My favorite part of the Acropolis is the Parthenon. It is a temple dedicated to Athens' patron goddess, Athena. The Greek mathematicians were so smart to consider how no exact right angles would make the columns of the building appear more substantial and appealing to the eye. I can't wait to go to Nashville to see the replica of how it looked in its grandeur! Inside the Nashville Parthenon, the Athena statue is 41 ft. 10 in. tall! WOW! My Mom's favorite part is the Erechtheion, where statues of women are used as columns. It was a temple dedicated to Athena, Poseidon, and other mythical gods like Erechteus. Before my trip to Athens, I found this cute KAVU skirt recently, and I wear it often. This particular style is called "Cedar." You can wear it with almost anything! It's easy to dress up AND dress down. http://www.kavu.com/Category/88_1/Skirts.aspx TOMs are comfy to wear while strolling the streets and even climbing up the marble steps to the Acropolis. If you don't have a pair of TOMs already, you need to make a new purchase! :) This is a cool company because whenever someone buys a shoe, they provide resources for someone in need. http://melissinos-poet.com/eng/sandals.html On the main shopping street, there are two jewelry stores across the street from each other. They are called Eve and Joy. I got a cute little ring from Joy. It’s a replica of an old Greek coin and I love it! I also have earrings with the Greek key on them from Eve. Chris is super nice! https://www.facebook.com/ELIASANDPANOS?fref=ts
There are so many churches in Rome! I have some favorites that I thought I would share:
In most churches, you can’t show your shoulders and knees. I have some palazzo pants and I wear them all the time. They are Sugarhigh brand. I love them because of their light-weight material and cute pattern. Many fountains are in Rome’s most famous piazzas. Here are some of my favorites:
The Roman empire ruled from roughly 500 b.c. to 500 a.d. There were sites built during that time period that you can still visit today! Some of my favorites are:
I recommend getting a ROMA PASS. It gets you in free for the metro, buses, and trams. Also free entrance to a museum or two (depending on which one you get, 2 or 3 day Roma Pass), and discounts to some places! The website is- http://www.romapass.it/p.aspx?l=en&tid=2 |
